Stop press update September 2018 - Sold out again!  This has taken Val completely by surprise! A third edition is now printed soon.  You can also buy the book in the bookshop at Rennes-le-Château.  Ask for it if you don't see it - they have a whole wall of books in English there!

"The Sacred River of Rennes-les-Bains" was first published in the spring of 2012, written because Val felt there should be a book available for English readers all about Rennes-les-Bains, which was becoming almost as popular as Rennes-le-Château.  Sales were slow but constant and early in 2015 Val decided an updated edition should be done with new information to kick-start interest, especially as the town had been fascinated by the Claudia Procula book, in both French and English.  But there was plenty of time . . . and Val was moving house.

Suddenly all the bookshops ordered more copies, orders came via Paypal and through Amazon and - we had sold out! In the middle of her disordered office Val had to get to grips with the revised manuscript and new information to be added.  We were touched that the readers who ordered in the interim were happy to wait for their copies.  Some told us they did not like the spiral binding so that had to go too . . . and we are all so pleased by this new, neat, easy-to-hold edition.  And the price is reduced too.

So what is the book about?

Rennes-les-Bains - a very special history

The first chapter of this book offers an intriguing idea; that the River Sals at Rennes-les-Bains represents the "underground stream of knowledge", popular in 15th century philosophy.  A visit to the source of the river confirms this; the water never fails, it simply bubbles out of the ground, and flows down the mountain to Rennes-les-Bains.  For Val, this is symbolic of the underground stream of knowledge that survived at Rennes-les-Bains in the time of Mary Magdalene.   So much so, that she made a film about it.  Click  here to see it.  And be amazed!  We have to thank Luigi Oliviero for "master-minding" this project for us.

The book is also a history of this popular town in Rennes-le-Chateau country, from the Celts, the Tectosages that lived there in pre-Roman days, through to the Romans and their myriad Gods, some of whom lived at Rennes-les-Bains, to the Visigoths and their treasure, to the priests of the 18th and 19th centuries with their unusual beliefs in the presence of Jesus, not to mention the "return of the Great Monarch."

The only book published in England about this delightful small town, it is a "must" for Rennes-les-Bains fans.  It tells you the secrets of Bugarach and Montferrand, of the Cathar treasure of Montsegur, of Pierre Plantard with his mysterious meridian, it tells you how to find gold for yourself and describes how Mary Magdalene came to Rennes-les-Bains; it is a treasure trove of alternative history in the Corbières.
The book has 8 pages in colour with wonderful photos and 182 pages in black and white.

Readers' comments

Val has just wrote a wonderful book!  She is fast becoming a well known  and respected writer and researcher.  Jaap Rameijer, Rennes-le-Chateau

I am really enjoying your book "The Sacred River"!!!  When I went up to the source of the Sals last time I did not see any Naked Celts running round, but I will put my glasses on next time!  I spoke to some people about it in France and they all said that you do a lot of good with your book as it brings a lot of people to the area.   Karin from Lancashire
Looking forward to reading your beautifully-presented book. Andrew Lownie, Literary Agent
THE book for anyone interested in Rennes-les-Bains.  I read it in one sitting.  The narrative really flowed, like the river.  The best one yet by Val Wineyard.  David Warr, Warrington

And Luigi Oliviero sent a picture.
